Dominant Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Top Player Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including successfully defending the US Open this past September versus Amanda Anisimova to claim her fourth Grand Slam singles title.
A Year of Consistency
Throughout the year, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine finals, with defeats coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the entire year as the world number one, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second straight year.
In July, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Statistics
Sabalenka ended the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and picked up a historic £11m in tournament winnings.
She earned nearly eighty percent of the votes cast by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is poised to compete against 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Other WTA Award Recipients
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a 13-month break following the arrival of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second career Grand Slam title as a pair.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after advancing to five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third time.
